Get Out Of Your Room
Whether or not you are living on college campus or if you are still living at home, its easy to get swamped by your inital work load and stay in your room. However, doing this means never meeting any one new! Make sure you get out and socialise and talk to your new found classmates.
Join College Groups and Societies
There are so many societies and groups in college for everyone to join. LGBT+ Groups, Student Unions, Feminist Groups, Sports Groups, Protest Groups, Activist Groups, the list goes on and on. It is a great way to meet new people and find other people who are interested in the same things as you and share you passions.
Start a Conversation With One New Person a Day!
As daunting as this might seem initially, it will get easier each time you do it. You will have no shortage of new people to talk to either, after all, you are new to the college, there are a huge amount of strangers for you to talk to.
Get An On Campus Job
There are usually plenty of on campus jobs to be had at the beginning of the first semester of university. Getting one of these gives you access to all sorts of students from all levels and years. This means you will get to know 100s of people in a very short period of time.
Study in the Library
Studying in the college library means that you get to be around other students for hours at a time. You also might come across someone from a higher year than you studying the same thing as you. This could be very beneficial to your future study.
Eat In The College Canteen
The same rule applies for the college canteen. There you will be surrounded by other students and have ample opportunity to speak to someone.
These are only a few tips that can help with making friends in your initial few weeks in college. While strking up a conversation with strangers is scary,. remember they are in the same boat as you, and might actually really be hoping that you make the first move and start the conversation off.
